UI/UX design
For The Method we designed the branding and the interface for the ‘A Life in a Day’ app which allows staff of many of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies to improve their understanding of illnesses and increase their empathy with the sufferers of those conditions. It’s a unique immersive simulation where the user becomes the patient and experiences the challenges, choices and impact that real patients face every day. The app has won numerous awards for best use of mobile technology.
A Life in a Day is an immersive experience lasting up to 24 hours. Participants go about their lives as normal but for the duration they experience what it is like to live with a specific disease or condition. The app sends interactive challenges to the user’s smartphone that reflect the patient experience. For up to 24 hours, they must walk in a patient’s shoes, face their choices and experience the consequences of the decisions they make.
We worked closely with one of the key stakeholders at The Method to gain a deep understanding of the idea behind the product. We then prepared interactive wireframes and mock-ups showing the user workflow as participants in the immersive experience would navigate through the app. Once the wireframes were approved, we set about creating all of the graphics that are used to illustrate the various tasks that users are required to carry out during the course of the experience and worked closely with the development team to ensure that everything was optimised for iOS and Android.
At the same time, we worked on the branding to create a simple but striking logo, utilising a heartbeat to reflect the twin concepts of life and timeline.
