System takeover

We take over software we didn’t write – and keep it running

Maybe your last developer went quiet. Maybe the person who built it left years ago. Maybe it works, but nobody dares touch it. Whatever brought you here, taking over someone else’s system is one of the things we do best – and have done, again and again, since 2004.

Is this you?

You’ll recognise some of this

You don’t need everything below to be true. One is usually enough.

  • Your current support falls short of what you were promised – or what your SLA says.
  • The team that built your system is no longer available, responsive, or willing.
  • Nobody documented how it works, and the people who knew have moved on.
  • You’ve inherited a codebase and you’re not sure what state it’s in.
  • Something needs changing, and you have no one to change it safely.

What we do

How we approach it

1. Audit and baseline

We evaluate the software, the infrastructure and the processes around it, and establish a clear picture of what you’ve actually got. You get a transparent report: what’s healthy, what’s at risk, and what needs attention first.

2. Take control

We bring the source code, the deployment pipelines, the hosting and any third-party licences under your control – not ours, and not anyone else’s. You should own your system outright, and we make sure you do.

3. Stabilise

We resolve the urgent problems first – the bugs left behind, the things that break – and get the system back to the service level you need, against an agreed SLA.

4. Document and improve

We write down what was never written down, introduce a proper business-analysis process where one is missing, and put you on a footing where change is safe and planned rather than risky and reactive.

5. Run it, or hand it back

From there, we either look after the system for you as a managed service, or get your own team back in a position to run it themselves. Your choice.

The technologies we take on

We’ve adopted systems in a wide range of stacks. Recent takeovers have involved .NET Core / .NET, Angular, the ABP.io framework, Azure, SQL Server and React – but the point of this service is that we’re comfortable learning whatever your system is built in.

FAQ

Common questions

Yes – it’s one of our specialisms. We’ve been adopting and supporting systems built by others since 2004, across many languages and frameworks. We start with an audit so we understand the system before we change anything.

Send us your system

Tell us what you’ve got and what’s going wrong. We’ll take a proper look and tell you honestly what it needs – whether that’s a rescue, a modernisation, or just a reliable team to keep it running.
